When we first met together as a group, it seemed quite clear that we all had similar thoughts on how we wanted the rooms to look. The living room would be fairly modern for that day yet strong evidence of wear and tear on the walls, floors and furniture. The bedroom would start to resemble the natural habitat for bugs, with dirt and grime over the walls and suggest what creature had belonged there.
From the text we knew that the Samsa family lived in an grey urban city somewhere in Europe. Ideas of where it could be set were Germany, Russia and Czech Republic. Though after discussion and research we decided that the story would be set in Prague, Czech Republic, around 1915 when the text was written.
